Granite can be a widespread and widely occurring kind of intrusive, felsic, igneous rock. Granites in most cases have a medium- to coarse-grained texture. Occasionally some individual crystals (phenocrysts) are bigger than the groundmass, in which case the texture is recognized as porphyritic. A granitic rock with a porphyritic texture is from time to time known as a porphyry.
Marble can be a metamorphic rock composed of recrystallized carbonate minerals, most commonly calcite or dolomite.Geologists use the term "marble" to refer to metamorphosed limestone; then again stonemasons use the term alot more broadly to encompass unmetamorphosed limestone. Marble is commonly employed for sculpture and as a developing material.
Granites can be pink to gray in color, depending on their chemistry and mineralogy. By definition, granite has a color index (the percentage of the rock created up of dark minerals) of less than 25%. Outcrops of granite tend to form tors and rounded massifs. Granites oftentimes happen in circular depressions surrounded by a range of hills, formed by the metamorphic aureole or hornfels. Granite is generally found in the continental plates of the Earth's crust.
